Our grants-based activities are supported by the following organizations:THE CALIFORNIA ENDOWMENTFIRST FIVE OF MERCED COUNTYTHE UNITED WAY♦ Cultural Brokering and Mediation To help those from non-Western cultures understand how American medicine works, and to help American health care providers understand the beliefs and perspectives of other cultures. We have helped English speakers navigate the health and mental health systems and we have provided simplified health information about a variety of topics. ♦ Cultural Training To improve services in health care, social services and businesses who serve clients from diverse cultures and languages. ♦ Culturally Responsive Interpreter Services In various languages for health care, social services and businesses. Interpreter services are available in Spanish, Hmong, Lao, Mien, Punjabi, and Portuguese. Volunteers are available who speak Korean, Vietnamese and Mandarin. ♦ Public Education, Advocacy, and Cultural Activities That celebrate and raise awareness of the many cultures and ethnicities in our community, and provide information on language rights. ♦ Language Assessment For language proficiency and interpreting skills in Spanish, Hmong, and English. ♦ Health Education For topics such as diabetes, high blood pressure, stroke, and cancer in a variety of languages. (This includes in person presentations and video production). ♦ Interpreter Trainings And continuing education workshops in English, Spanish and Hmong including 40-hour interpreter training, multilingual training, and customized training.
