About US

The MATCH (Multidisciplinary Approach to Cross-Cultural Health) Coalition began in 1996 as an informal working group of volunteers and representatives from health and community organizations. A cultural literacy and preservation project called Healthy House Within a MATCH Coalition grew out of that effort and has been an independent non-profit since January 2003.

The Mission of Healthy House Within a MATCH Coalition is  to promote the well-being and health of all people in our multi-ethnic community through the provision of education, services, and advocacy, which are founded in respect for language, culture, and health equity.

What's Heathy House?

Healthy House, a cultural non-profit,  was originally established to address the cultural clash between Hmong Shamanism and the Western Medical establishment, so poignantly chronicled in The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down by Anne Fadiman. It is internationally known for its Partners in Healing Program, which brings Hmong shamans together with Western healthcare providers to collaborate and ensure optimal outcomes for Hmong patients. Healthy House runs a language bank training.

Healthy House's Language Bank

Our Language Bank trains and provides professional healthcare interpreters, proficient in 18 languages, to healthcare as well as public and provate facilities throughout the Central Valley of California. Translation services are also available.

Grant-Based Programs

Our grant-based programs address health disparities, striving to improve access and health equity, to the under-represented cultural groups in Merced County, one of the most ethnically diverse counties in the entire country. Since 1998 Healthy House has provided services in the San Joaquin Valley, from Fresno to Stockton. Healthy House is a Member of the California Healthcare Interpreting Association (CHIA), and the National Council on Interpreting in Health Care. We are also partnered with California Alliance to provide ECM/CS services to medicate clients.
